Meteorite Crater in Puno, Peru Declared Natural Heritage Site
The approximately 12-metre crater where a meteorite landed on 15 September, as well as the surrounding area has been declared a National Cultural and Natural Heritage Site by the Regional Government of Puno.

AFP More quakes rock northern Chile
Recently, a 7.7 earthquake and aftershocks hit Chile near Arica and Antofagasta killing two and injuring around 15,000. The province of Pisco in Peru, affected by the earthquake on 15 August, was also hit by tremors earlier this month.

Buses on Peru's Highways without Seatbelts to be Taken Out of Service
As of 1 December the Ministry of Transportation (MTC) is stepping up efforts to ensure that all inter-provincial buses in Peru have working seatbelts. While this regulation has been in force since 2005 the MTC is now implementing check-points around the country to ensure the continuation of the current decrease in traffic accidents and deaths.
