Nueve Reinas is a captivating crime comedy/drama film set in modern-day Buenos Aires. Marcos and Juan become conning partners when Marcos witnesses Juan successfully pulling off a bill-changing scam on a cashier. They become involved in an important conning operation to sell a copy of the valuable stamp collection the Nine Queens (Nueve Reinas). Negotiations ensue amongst a web of dubious characters that force them, as well as the viewer, to constantly question the honesty of their motives. Nominated for 29 international awards, Nueve Reinas is also a favorite among Argentines.

If you haven't seen this film yet, you are missing out on an important part of Argentine cinema, and cultural history. La historia official was the first film made about some of the darker sides to the Dictatorship. Made only one year after it, in 1984, this film is about a mother who begins to suspect that her adopted daughter's mother was one of the 'Disappeared'. In her search she meets members of the Mothers de Plaza de Mayo, and begins to understand what actually happened to many Argentines who disappeared. The film won an Oscar and Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film in 1986.

South America on a Motorcycle Part II Thursday, August 28th, 7:30pm
It's been several months since Jacob Sherman first inspired us with stories of his adventures from New York to Buenos Aires. Jacob has since made his way back to NY and has a whole slew of new tidbits to share. Come to the clubhouse to enjoy a glass of wine while reliving Jacob's adventures through his pictures and retellings. A must for avid travellers and motorcycle gurus! Discussion to follow.
