Volunteering and Internships in Lima

As an intern or volunteer at SAE you gain valuable, varied work experience; develop new, professional skills; work with an international staff and in a fun work environment; improve your language skills, meet people from all over the world and get excellent networking opportunities.

Volunteers wanted

At the South American Explorers Lima Clubhouse we are always looking for volunteers to help out. Volunteers can help with various tasks and projects such as member reception, organization and expanding of clubhouse library and trip reports, organizing events, marketing and outreach, fundraising, etc. Free lunch is provided. Anyone with a few extra hours on hand and interested in joining the SAE team please email us at saelima@saexplorers.org for more information about volunteer opportunities.

Intern at SAE - General Information

  • Minimum time commitment
  • SAE Lima asks any prospective intern to commit for a minimum of 3 months and at least 15 hours per week. This not only ensures that you will have enough time to understand the ethos and work of the clubhouse, but also ensures that you can make the most out of the experience.
  • Daily Business
  • Every intern will be trained in how to assist with providing member services, give clubhouse tours to prospective members and sell merchandise. Interns work at the front desk subject to a schedule and all interns have to make sure we can offer all the membership services we promise. This is key because for most members (and potential members) this is their first point of contact with the clubhouse.
  • Typical Intern
  • Interns here at SAE tend to be friendly, out-going, confident individuals. Good communication skills are needed to work with tourists/members who need help with their travel plans and interns should also be service-minded. Working well in a team is essential, flexibility and a good sense of humour. Fluent English is necessary and some knowledge of Spanish preferred. Interns normally can use their own initiative to shape and develop their role based on skills and experience. Most interns have had some travel experience in South America or knowledge of Peru, though this is not essential.
  • Benefits Include
  • Lunch on working days, free Spanish lessons on Mondays and a free one-year SAE membership for interns contracted to at least 3 months.
