THURSDAY AUGUST 7, PRESENTATION: VOLUNTEERING IN THE CLOUDFOREST
Junín is located in the sub-tropical cloud forest (1400 m) of one of the ten most biodiverse regions of the world, the Andean Chocó bioregion, home to the Cock of the Rock, Andean Toucan, Spectacled Bear, Puma, Kinkajou, and a diversity of orchids. Since 1997 Junín has gained attention worldwide for its struggle to protect its community and biodiversity against the threat of transnational copper mining projects. The community ecotourism project was developed in Junín as an economic alternative to mining for the local people. Junín offers a variety of attractions, including: Day-long and shorter hikes to primary community forests, beautiful waterfalls, and the old drill sites from the mining exploration phase. Talks with community leaders about history of the anti-mining struggle. Visits to organic coffee farms, a cane-sugar alcohol distillery, and community-protected watersheds. Baths in gorgeous natural swimming pools and rivers. Volunteers can get involved in many ways from teaching English or computer skills to working on organic farms. Opportunities for research abound in Environmental Jusitce, Ornithology, Entomology, Forest-Ecology, Sustainable Agriculture, and Archeology…

  • Are You A Blogger?

We at SAE recognize how important word of mouth is. In fact, nowadays that's the most effective method of helping members find us. On the internet, blogging is fast becoming the new method people use to communicate to each other.

This is why we're offering this unique opportunity to any members and non-members that may also have a personal website or blog that they write on:

If you write a little something about the South American Explorers Club on your blog and let us know, we'll give you 10% OFF a new membership or a
5% discount in the SAE Quito store.

Here are some rules about this offer:
    1. Your blog must be over 1 months old.
    2. Your blog must have at least 10 other entries.
    3. Your blog must contain a link to the South American Explorers website.

Once you create this and then contact us about it (providing a link to your blog), we'll get back to you within a few days with your discount. At our discretion if we feel your effort is substantial we may increase the discount or send you a nice gift from our store.

*South American Explorers CLub reserves the right to refuse any suggested blogs or websites. You must redeem any discounts in the Quito Clubhouse or over the phone.
