Keeping in Touch
Nowadays in Bolivia, internet access is extensive, and as you will soon see, much easier than trying to dial a telephone. Every major town has at least one cyber café. Outside La Paz, connections are slower but they do work. This method also works out to be much cheaper than phoning home.
It is possible to dial direct from major cities to Europe, USA, Australia, as well as some other places. Calls are pretty expensive, but discounts are available during off-peak hours and on weekends. Direct collect call numbers are as follows: US AT&T, 0800-1111; MCI 0800-2222, Sprint 0800-3333, IDB (TRT) 0800-4444, UK BT 0800-0044, Spain Telefónica 0800-0034, Brazil 0800-0055, Chile Entel 0800-0056, Canada Teleglobe 0800-0101, Japan KDD 0800-0081.
There are many places with public fax machines. They will normally send and receive messages.
