Visas

US citizens, Australians, Canadians and most European union citizens (except Irish citizens) do not require an entry visa for Colombia

Citizens of Afghanistan, Angola, Algeria, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cape Verde, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, China, Comoros, Congo, Cuba, Czech Republic, Djibouti, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Haiti, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Iraq, Ivory Coast, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Lesotho, Liberia, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritius, Mauritania, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Nicaragua, Niger, Nigeria, North Korea, Pakistan, Palestine, Rwanda, São Tomé, and Principe, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, Swaziland, Taiwan, Tanzania, Togo, Vietnam, Yemen, Zaire, Zambia, and Zimbabwe need a visa. This information changes frequently so check with your consulate or embassy before traveling. Colombian visas are issued only by Colombian consulates. When a visa is required, you must show three photographs, police clearance, and medical certificates, and application form, as well as a passport.

Visitors from any country always need an onward ticket, however, the ticket is not always asked for. Visitors are sometimes asked to prove that they have US$20 for each day of their stay. Normally, you are given permission to stay for 30 days upon entry, you´re entitled to 90 days but lately the immigration officers are allowing tourists a maximum of 30 days. If you plan on staying for more than 30 days, be sure to ask for a longer stay, but this may not be granted if you need an extension you can apply for 15-day periods at the DAS (security police) office in any major city up to a maximum of six months. Beware of delays; allow yourself plenty of time for the application to be processed. The DAS office in Bogotá (Calle 100, No 11B-27) are empowered to grant longer stays immediately. If you are going to take a Spanish course, you must have a student visa.
