CENSO

A CENSO is the official ID issued here in Ecuador to residents and long term non immigrants who enter with special visas issued prior to entering Ecuador, from the Ecuadorian embassy in their country. (Examples are 6 month volunteer visas or student visas.) Now, the catch is that to apply for this type of visa it will cost you minimum of $150 - $200, plus $30 application fee PLUS $8 registration once you get here to Ecuador. So maybe not worth it just to get reduced entrance!

If it helps to justify the park fee a little, then the money is used to keep the park in the excellent condition it is in, with fully qualified guides who are trained at the Charles Darwin research station - who also receive some of the money to help with further research and study!

So actually you can be certain that a good % stays in the islands for the islands future security.

Don't forget as well that some of the agencies we recommend for Galapagos also give SAE discounts to members - so maybe this will help you to be able to budget for your trip...and a trip to these islands will probably become one of your most treasured memories, they are truly wonderful and special!
