Outdoor Equipment In Ecuador
Rentals and Sales
The equipment you need for just about any outdoor activity can be rented and bought in several places around the country, although Quito has by far the greatest selection. Climbing gear (including plastic climbing boots in large sizes) is generally easy to rent; renting good quality sleeping bags and tents can be a bit trickier. However, it is becoming much easier to buy decent mountaineering equipment that is imported or even made in Ecuador. Whether renting or buying gear, be sure to examine it completely for quality and wear before you hand over your money.

Propane/Butane Canisters - Available at most camping stores.
Gasoline - Can be bought at gas stations and comes in two grades – Extra and Super. For high altitude cooking (4000m+) the Super may be best as it is highest in octane. Take care not to confuse unleaded gas with Agas con plomo, which does indeed contain lead.
