Visas
All visitors to Ecuador must have a passport valid for at least six months and an onward or return ticket. Only citizens of the flowing countries require a consular visa to visit Ecuador as tourists: Afghanistan, Algeria, Bangladesh, China, Costa Rica, Cuba, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, North Korea, South Korea, Lebanon, Libya, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestinian Authority, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Vietnam, and Yemen. Upon entry, all visitors are required to complete a brief international embarkation/disembarkation card, which is stamped along with your passport. Keep this card in your passport and do not lose it as it can call all sorts of problems when leaving the country or at a spot check. You are required by Ecuadorian law to carry your passport at all times.
Tourists are entitled to visit Ecuador for up to 90 days during any 12 month period. The can be extended at the discretion of the Policía Nacional de Migración. When arriving at Quito or Guayaquil airport you will be asked how long you plan to stay in the country. If you are not sure, ask for 90 days. You can extend your stay up to a maximum of 90 days.
An international vaccination certificate is seldom asked for in Ecuador but must be carried by all international travelers. A valid driver’s license from your home country is generally sufficient to rent a car and drive in Ecuador, but an international driver’s license may also be helpful. An International Student Identity Card may help you get discounts when traveling in Ecuador, but only if it is accompanied by proof of home student status.
