Keeping In Touch
There are cyber cafés in Cayenne and many businesses have email. As for the telephone, international calls can be made direct to any country from any phone. Dial 00+the country code. Phone cards are usually used to make long distance phone calls and can be bought at book shops or supermarkets or occasionally at other small stands. The phone cards are in units of 50 or 120 and to call the United States, one unit is worth approximately 3.6 seconds and 2.5 seconds to call the European Union. There are reduced rates on the weekend and between 5:00pm and 7:00 am.
