Roads and Car Travel
There are approximately 1,000 kilometers of roadway throughout the country. The main road is narrow but paved and continues for 130km from Pointe Macouris to Iracoubo. Another 117km takes the road to Mana and St. Laurent. It also goes to Régina and Cacao, but the last part has some rough patches you should be aware of.
It is convenient to have a car anywhere you go and there are plenty of agencies in French Guyana. There are no formalities for bringing a private car across the Guyane-Suriname border. There are offices for Avis, Budget, and Hertz in French Guyana as well. Another local option is Jasmin (http://www.jasminrent-a-car.gf) and can be reached at telephone number 308-490. Be sure to check insurance details carefully; know what types of incidents your insurance will cover. Inspect your car before signing anything and report any defects you find immediately
