Keeping In Touch
There are a few cyber cafés in Georgetown and some hotels have business suites for guests to use.
It is possible to use a telephone to dial direct to any country in the world. Blue public telephones in Georgetown only allow collect calls overseas and phone booths have the three digit country codes printed inside. Yellow phones are for calls to local areas costing G$3 per call. Overseas calls also can be made from the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company office behind the Bank of Guyana building and is open daily until 8:00pm. There is usually a long wait so you may want to arrive early to avoid the worst of the lines. Fax rates are the same as phone rates and most hotels have a fax machine. Canada and the UK have direct dial connections, and they are: Canada Direct, dial 0161; UK direct 169.
