ESSENTIALS: The people at the hotel warned us frequently for thieves in the town center. I felt actually very save in the town center. All musea I visited were for free and the people were very friendly and helpfull. Still take care when taking pictures of the governement palace, we asked to make fotographs of the riverside of the building and were not allowed to do so. At the street side we asked again and this time we were allowed.

COMMENTS: The (number one) tourist attraction of Asuncion, a trainride with an old steam train, has stopped his service after july 16, 2000. A tragic accident in which I was involved lead to the stopping. The train derailed near the town of Luque. One of the carriages turned over and some people fell out off the window, one 11 year old boy died and 15 other were (badly) injured (I was lucky, no injuries). Some minister announced after the accident that there will be no more trainride in Paraguay (this was the last railroad still in operation for touristic purposes only).
