The Hotel Martinique was great. The prices have gone up but it seems to be the case everywhere. The room was small but clean and comfortable. It was a block from the beach. They charged me $27.50 for a "small" single. They had $40 rooms that were a bit larger. This included breakfast which included GREAT coffee, fresh papaya, bread, ham and cheese and juice.
There is a shuttle bus (air conditioned) that runs from the international airport to Copacabana that costs R$5 ($5). The name of the company is Real Auto Onibus LTDA. They will also take you back to the airport if you flag them down. You really have to get their attention. They head North on Avenida Atlantica about every hour or so. It's a pretty good deal.
